### Summary
The Northeast Ohio VA Healthcare System is recruiting for a Social Worker. The Social Worker will function in Social Work Service and will be assigned to the Mental Health Ambulatory Care (MHACC) Clinic. The incumbent must use a high level of skill in assessing and treating the complicated psychosocial problems of Veterans referred to the Mental Health Clinic. The incumbent completes thorough psychosocial assessments as part of the consult process when the Veteran's is initially referred to the Mental Health Clinic. Other social work services include short-term, solution focused counseling with individuals and families who may be in crisis, supportive counseling, and referral for resources and benefits.
**Work Schedule:**Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

### Responsibilities
* Working with Veterans and their families who are experiencing a wide range of complicated medical, psychiatric, emotional, behavioral, and psychosocial problems.
* Completing thorough psychosocial assessments to determine the psychosocial functioning and needs of Veterans and/or their families.
* Participating as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team through collaboration with Veterans and family as well as interdisciplinary treatment team members in the development and implementation of a veteran-centered treatment plan.
* Facilitating discharge planning through collaboration with Veterans and their families as well as interdisciplinary treatment team members to ensure that appropriate discharge plans are executed in a timely manner.
* Serving as a liaison between Veterans and/or their families and VA and community resources in order to ensure thorough delivery of services.
* Providing consultation and education to Veterans and their families regarding community resources, VA benefits and specialty programs, and advance directives.
* Providing consultation to other treatment team and staff members regarding psychosocial needs of Veterans and/or their families and the impact of the identified psychosocial problems on the Veteran's health care planning, compliance with treatment, and discharge planning.
* Supporting the mission, policies, and procedures of the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), the appropriate Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN), and the facility.

### Qualifications
**Basic Requirements**:
* United States Citizenship.
* Must have a Master's Degree in social work from a school of social work accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).
* Must be licensed or certified at the Master's level to independently practice social work in a state. (VHA may waive the licensure or certification requirement for persons who are otherwise qualified, pending completion of state prerequisites for licensure/certification examination and candidate will be placed on a temporary appointment until licensure requirements are satisfied).
**Grade Determinations**:
**GS-11 Level:** Applicant must possess one year of post-MSW degree professional social work experience in the field of health care and be
licensed or certified in a state at the independent practice level. This experience must have been in a clinical setting and must have
demonstrated the potential to perform advanced assignments independently. (A clinical setting is a medical center, clinic - medical or psychiatric, residential treatment center, or any other type of facility where social work participates in a collaborative treatment and is identified with the medical profession.) Experience must have been obtained after earning a Master's Degree in Social Work. Substituting education for experience at the GS-11 Level: To meet the required specialized experience for the GS-11 level, you may substitute a doctoral degree in social work from a school of social work. You must submit a transcript to receive credit for this education. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work.
**Preferred Experience:**
* Working with individuals who have a range of mental health and psychiatric issues, including individuals with severe and persistent mental illness (SMI).
* Training and experience in providing evidence-based psychotherapies.

The full performance level of this vacancy is a GS-11.
**Physical Requirements:**Lifting and carrying light objects under 15 pounds using two hands is required. Walking up to two hours is required. Incumbent will also need to have the ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination, correctable vision, hearing with or without aid, depth perception, ability to distinguish basic colors and emotional and mental stability.
